know your options.

Who is WMBBN?
The West Michigan Better Birth Network is made up of parents, professionals, and advocates of Western Michigan who are honoring the Mother-Friendly Childbirth Initiative (MFCI) as members of BirthNetwork National. We are part of a growing movement of birth activists striving to bring peace and dignity to birth by helping empower women to make informed choices about their maternity care through education, action, encouragement and support to all of West Michigan.

Who is BirthNetwork National?
BirthNetwork National is a national, volunteer, non-profit organization whose mission is to promote awareness and availability of Mother-Friendly maternity care. This network is leading a grassroots movement based on the belief that birth can profoundly affect our physical, mental and spiritual well-being. BirthNetwork National advocates Mother-Friendly Care as defined by the Coalition for Improving Maternity Services' Mother-Friendly Childbirth Initiative (MFCI) which encourages families to make informed choices while having confidence in the process, resulting in safer and more satisfying childbirth experiences.

We Believe:
  • Birth is a normal, healthy process - not an illness or disease.
  • Empowering births can take place in hospitals, birth centers and homes.
  • Maternity care should be evidence-based and woman-centered.
  • Women are entitled to complete and accurate information on their full range of options for pregnancy, birth, postpartum and breastfeeding.
  • Women have the right to make heath care decisions for themselves and for their babies. That right includes Informed Consent as well as Informed Refusal.
